Edward Kim is a seasoned venture capital professional dedicated to driving innovation and supporting groundbreaking startups in Michigan.  As a General Partner at SDV-MI, Ed plays a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s investment strategy and nurturing a diverse portfolio of companies. SDV-MI aligns its investment charters with the state of Michigan’s economic development initiatives, focusing on advanced manufacturing, AI, advanced materials, and mobility technologies to propel regional growth.

With a well-rounded background as a serial tech startup founder, Ed has successfully launched, funded, and led multiple startups, gaining invaluable firsthand experience in the challenges and triumphs of building innovative businesses from the ground up. This entrepreneurial journey has provided Ed with deep insights into what it takes for startups to gain traction.  Additionally, Ed has held management roles in leading industry companies such as Ford and a FIAT industrial company, where he spearheaded strategic initiatives and drove significant growth.

Ed also serves as a Professor of Practice at the University of Michigan – Flint, College of Innovation & Technology.  He is dedicated to fostering the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. Through mentorship and active engagement with Michigan’s innovation and entrepreneurial community, Ed works closely with entrepreneurs, investors, university students, and faculty to cultivate a collaborative ecosystem that promotes learning, growth, and groundbreaking technological advancements.
